Berchtesgaden

To translate: Death is certain--uncertain is the hour.  Lots of sadness in this area--a block away is a building mural to the "sons of the strong people of Berchtesgaden" who gave their lives in a number of wars--the most recent being WW2.  Hitler's Eagle's Nest is nearby.
Konigsee--a very long lake with very clear water, at the base of the mountains.

  1. Certainly a lot of sobering sights there. But the lake is gorgeous! Nothing more spectacular than a mountain lake, I'm convinced. Beautiful shot.

  2. Are you going up to the Eagle's Nest? The bus trip up there is worth it! (I can't remember how soon in the season they stop running the buses...) It's been a LOT of years since I've been, but it's spectacular. I was in my 20's when I lived in Germany for three years, and that's one thing that was SO different for me--the "history" in the books was still very much alive there.
