This is a cake!

You can see the people and the buildings around the square reflected in the window.

As long as I'm on this theme--here were some of the offerings in one of the fancier lunch spots (we didn't eat there--just feasted with the eyes!)

  1. Assuming this is Germany, have you tried any of the baked goods? I remember them as gorgeous to look at, but not as sweet as one would think (which suited my tastes just fine!). I'm enjoying your trip!!

  2. Laura--so true--also in France. The pastries are prettier to look at than anything. The reality disappoints somewhat (although we have had some good kuchen at our breakfasts). So Laura, how did you come to live in Germany at that time? I'm jealous! I was almost a German major, I loved learning the language so much, and wanted badly to go to Germany. In the end, I married a man whose mother is from Germany, so I have had a chance to get here.

  3. My husband was Air Force; we were stationed at Bitburg 1985-1988, and did a lot of traveling. Lauren was 4 months old when we moved there; Jonathan was born in Bitburg. We all went back Christmas/New Year's when Lauren was 10th grade and Jonathan was 8th.
