Our last "first day of school" picture

Andy is a senior. Today was his first day of school and, as we have done every year, we took a picture. My "little Andy" is not so little anymore.  (Sniff, sniff... sigh...where did the time go?)

  1. Love this! Are you always in the picture? That's a really fun spin on it! Hope his senior year is wonderful.

  2. No, we have always taken a picture of the boys without us--but my husband insisted on taking an additional picture with me in it this year.

  3. I think this is the first year I've realized the northern schools tend to still start after Labor Day. We've crept earlier and earlier in my region...now toward the first week of August.

  4. Laura, I'll bet they have A/C in the schools down there! The after Labor Day start used to be about letting the kids be available to help with the harvest. Nowadays it's just tradition, and allows us to enjoy our State Fair as a final hurrah to summer before school resumes.

  5. The reason for the after-Labor-Day start here was the same. I'm not sure why they are now starting earlier and earlier. I think they still go the same number of days...maybe more days off. When I was in school, it was still stifling hot in September, and we did not have A/C. And long about April (sometimes March) all the way through to the end of school it was terrible. I find it hard to believe that I could even function, as sensitive to the heat as I used to be. (And yes, I did have to walk a dirt road to the bus stop, but not 5 miles, and NEVER in the snow! :-) )

  6. I wish I would have done that! I homeschooled, but it still would have been a great thing to do!
