The Summer Project

We are replacing our old cedar deck (which must have been built in the 70's and clearly is rotting!)    Warren is providing some of the labor in its removal and our neighbor (who used to build decks professionally) will build the new one for us.  It is slow work, getting all the screws and nails out and takes 1/2 hour or longer just to remove one board.  Not fun. Glad I'm not doing it!

  1. What a great job for him (and NOT for you!). :-)

  2. It is already too hot here for a job like that. I spent 10 minutes simply taking pictures and was drenched. (Is he hammering upward from beneath to loosen the nails first? I'd be tempted to try getting an end loose and just pulling the rest--unless the boards are needed for something else. You might have some unaccounted for nails that way, though.)

  3. Thank goodness the heat hasn't set in here yet! My husband and Warren are definitely going to take a new approach--one with a 4 foot crowbar! The boards are fastened with screws, not nails, so it makes the job much harder. And no, that wood is not being re-used--just recycled back to the earth!
